Comfort Givers - providing blankets and other comforting items since 1982
The group meets in Luther Hall the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, from 10AM to 12PM - all are welcome to be a part!
Comfort Givers from 1982 thru 2021 have sewn 3,851 comforters/quilts for Lutheran World Relief to send overseas. Lutheran World Relief (LWR) reaches out to: Angola, Bahamas, Chile, Djibouti, Ecuador, El Salvador, Georgia, Guinea, Haiti, Honduras, India, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Mali, Montenegro, Rwanda, Senegal, Serbia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Ukraine, Zambia.
The Comfort Givers did more than just make quilts. From 1982 thru 2021 we sent 1,580 purchased blankets, 1,737 school kits, 1,279 personal health kits, 1,384 pounds of soap, 120 layettes, 2,243 clothing/sweaters, 26 pounds of material, 192 baby blankets and 213 sewing kits.
We are still making quilts and sending kits. Currently the group is collecting for baby kits which we are sending this year with the quilts and blankets.
Occasionally you'll see quilts displayed around the church before they make the trip to LWR. This year we made lap blankets for our Habitat Faith Build families too!
An excerpt from 1991 annual report is still true today, with a revision to include men too,
“We would be happy to have more ladies join us.
No need to sew a fine stitch.
All you need to do is cut patches and knot yarn.
We’d be very happy to see you.”
We would love to have you come help us help others, both overseas and local.
