Continuing our series of I Didn’t Know That, we take a look at the common symbolism attributed to that famous Christmas song; The Twelve Days of Christmas. Be aware, the song was not written as a mnemonic device to memorize Christian symbolism, but we can still have fun learning.
The seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Seven Swans A-swimming
This has been given the symbolism of:
Seven sacraments
(though some Christian denominations have only two)
or
Seven gifts of the Holy Spirit
(wisdom, understanding, counsel, might/fortitude, knowledge, fear of the Lord, and piety; from Isaiah 11:2-3, although piety is not mentioned specifically)
Stayed tuned for the next episode where we’ll look at the Eighth Day of Christmas
