1st Sunday in Lent (Luke 4:1-13)

Why did Jesus have to be tempted by the devil? The Hebrew word translated as “tempted” is also translated as “tested”. Tested, as a bridge inspector tests the strength and integrity of a bridge, making certain it can safely span the breach. So too, Jesus’s strength and integrity are inspected/tested; and he was found to be up to the challenge of spanning the break between heaven and humanity. Jesus re-connects us to our Creator and safely brings us into God’s presence. You can safely cross now. Thanks be to God!
