Matthew 16:13-20

Gospel Message from Pastor William

Jesus says to Peter; “and on this rock I will build my church.” The rock about which Jesus is speaking is not Peter (from the Greek, Petros, meaning, isolated stone.) Rather, the rock (from the Greek, petras, meaning bedrock or spiritual foundation) upon which Jesus will build his church is Peter’s declaration to Jesus; “You are  the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Let’s be clear, the church is not about a person (pastor, bishop or pope) but about the declaration of Jesus as Messiah, and with it, following the call to go, make disciples, teach to follow all Jesus commanded, and serve those in need. Is that your rock? It should be.
