Psalm 49:1-12

07/31/22

8th Sunday after Pentecost

Psalm 49:1-12, paraphrased by Pastor William

Listen up!

            Everyone listen!

Yes, all of you,

            the rich and poor.

I will speak plainly,

            straight from my heart.

I listen to wise council,

            wisdom is pleasant music.

Why should I be afraid,

            when others rale against me,

when the rich glorify themselves,

            when the powerful seize control?

Self-made people fool themselves,

            they too are God-made.

We can’t earn our way into God’s love,

God loved us before we were born.

The wise and the dullard all die,

the wealthy leave it all behind.

Grand gravestones are the reward of the rich,

wealthy and poor all return to dust.

It is not your land, house, or wealth,

it is all released when you die.

Put your trust in God,

live a life worthy of your Creator.
