Psalm 82

10th Sunday after Pentecost

Psalm 82, paraphrased by Pastor William

Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye, court is now in session;

            the honorable God the Creator presiding.

“That’s it! I’m tired of your corrupt ways;

            the way you take sides against the vulnerable.

You’re supposed to protect the helpless;

            take the side of the oppressed;

stand up for the weak and deprived;

            speak up to the power-hungry and liars.”

You ignorant and selfish people,

            don’t you see the damage you are doing?

God’s way of justice is being distorted,

            complete ruin and failure is inevitable.

“I called you to be judges of decency,

            but you don’t act like it!

Your way leads to destruction and death,

            I’m relieving you of duty.”

Oh God, we need you to step in;

            the world is in your hands.
