Stewardship Moment - 11th Sunday after Pentecost

Matthew 14:22-33

Stewardship Moment from Pastor William

Stewardship in the Gospel

After feeding the five thousand plus people, Jesus sends his disciples across the sea, dismisses the crowd, and then goes up the mountain to pray. Jesus revitalizes himself for continued ministry by praying.

Stewardship in our community

Though he sends the crowd away for now, there is no end to their needs. The good news is that there is no end to God’s abundant compassion for the crowds. So too, our community’s needs are more than adequately met by our generous God. The reason there are unmet needs is due to the lack of the community’s proper stewardship.

Stewardship in practice

Proper stewardship begins with everyone recognizing that what they have belongs to God. Then, everyone is to use what they have as God intends. Simply put, it means living below one’s means so there is some available to share with those who struggle. To share with those who struggle, in spite of being good stewards of what they have. Let us pray like Jesus; for our good stewardship, and for our courage to share our excess.
