Matthew 16:13-20
Stewardship Moment from Pastor William
Stewardship in the Gospel
Peter declares Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God, but then Jesus sternly orders the disciples to not tell anyone. Really? How are people to know, if we don’t tell them. Well, because when we show them Jesus’ abundant love, provision and forgiveness, then people will come to know Jesus.
Stewardship in our community
Current surveys indicate 79% of the population does not go to church. They don’t come to the place where God’s love, provision and forgiveness are taught. But, that’s not the problem. The problem is that the 21% who go to church to learn about it, are not doing well at demonstrating God’s love, provision and forgiveness to the 79%. That is poor stewardship in action.
Stewardship in practice
How can church goers be good stewards? Perhaps they should concentrate on spreading God’s love, provision and forgiveness outside their church walls. Jesus says to not tell people about him, but instead, show people. Not enough of your family, friends and coworkers coming to church? Consider how much of Jesus’ love, provision and forgiveness are being reflected in what you say and do.
