6th Sunday after Pentecost – Luke 10:38-42
Stewardship Moment from Pastor William
Stewardship in the Gospel
Jesus is experiencing the hospitality of Mary and Martha when sibling rivalry shows up as Martha tries to triangulate Jesus against her sister. Jesus lets Martha know that her worry and distraction is preventing her from a life with Jesus that is meant to change her into someone who lovingly nurtures the talent God has given her for the benefit of others; including her sister.
Stewardship in our community
God bestows skills and abilities on everyone; not for their own benefit, but for the benefit of the common good of community. We are to stive to improve and grow our talents and resources so that we can build up others. Community rises to the level of its least cared for members.
Stewardship in practice
God is an abundant provider; trusting us with more capacity than we need to just take care of ourselves. This week, find a way to use some of your time to do something for someone who can’t repay you. Find a way to use some of your resources to support a ministry that builds up those who are hurting, hungry or in need. In short; God trusts you to use your abundance to do God’s work – don’t let God down.
